Academics
At the University of Minnesota Carlson School of Management, experiential learning, proximity to Fortune 500 companies, a âstellarâ Career Center, and a ârobust dual degree programâ are just a few of the happy offerings on tap for those who take advantage of the schoolâs various MBA tracks. The school âmakes life very enjoyable for the student body,â administrators are âpassionate advocatesâ for the programs, and âstaff members go out of their way to remove barriers to success for students.â Both the administration and professors âare very receptive to student feedbackâ and âare willing to change their approach to best suit the students.â This includes âupdating, removing, and replacing required courses; and providing specific resources to students.â
The workload at Carlson is well balanced. Students say course work is âchallenging, but it doesnât take hours of your day up to get it doneâ (the exception being some of the core curriculum, which âcan be brutal some weeksâ). The academic rigor is âsufficient for most students, even those with a business background,â and âenterprise experience. . . gives real world experience and legitimate projects from companies.â Smaller cohort sizes âleverage wiggle space, and a more personalized MBA program is the outcome,â which includes âlots of coaching and mentoring being offered.â The beloved professors âcan apply the principles theyâre trying to teach us in a real world example while at the same time getting us to laugh.â âWe have beers on occasion and itâs nice to know that these people have other interests than just class,â says a student. They âoffer many options to help us balance both school and work,â including includes the ability to choose which two or three cases students want to write an analysis on, and courses of varying lengths throughout the semester.
