Academics
The College of William & Mary is âthe second oldest college in the Nation.â Its âplacement in the historic triangle offers students the opportunity to learn where Thomas Jefferson studiedâ as well as walk âthe streets where the ideas of America were founded.â MBAs appreciate the âamazing historyâ of the Raymond A. Mason School of Business at the College of William & Mary, âthe quality instructors, the scope of the courses that are taughtâ and âthe quality connections the school has in the business community.â Many students are first dawn to the program because of its strong reputation and âhigh prestigeâ but stay because of the âstrong academics,â âcollaborative cultureâ and the âfocus on leadership development.â In addition, the program is military-friendly and features a flexible schedule for part-time and non-traditional students, including weekend and night classes, as well as a newly launched online MBA program.
MBAs call the quality of professors âabsolutely phenomenalâ and appreciate the âsmall class size, collaborative environment, and opportunity for guided professional work and mentoring with professors, Executive Partners, fellow classmates, and alumni.â The faculty is âenthusiastic and easily accessible to students,â and most of them âlive within walking distance.â âThe college itself is perfect in size,â which leads to a â[v]ery personal program with lots of involvement from professors and staff.â
William & Mary provides excellent opportunities for advancement through programs like the MBA Executive Partners Program. The Executive Partners are âover 100 retired high ranking executives in their industry that bring a vast amount of knowledge and experience to the MBA program.â These âtop-level business executives mentor students,â and give them an insight into the job market âlike none other.â The program provides each student with her or his âown âcoachâ who is a retired executive.â As one student notes these âretired executives [are] willing to meet with you at any time to help you advance in your career goals.â The program âencourages team-projects whenever possible, which creates a very collaborative atmosphere in many classes.â With its emphasis on collaboration and strong ties to the business community, itâs clear that âthis program is excellent at developing leaders and team playersânot just teaching subjects.â
Students also note the invaluable experience and connections gained from the âglobal business immersions, the student-managed investment fund[s] (Batten Fund and Dittrick Fund), field consultancies, Career Acceleration Modules (CAM),â and the âMBA Association.â Students feel âwell prepared to pursueâ their âentrepreneurial goals in the future as a result of the networks, the mentoring, and the lessons gained through the Entrepreneurship CAM.â Military and non-traditional students appreciate the âoutstanding programâ that fits their âfull-time work schedule, with no online classes,â as well as the âhighly competitiveâ and highly selective program for the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command. The flexibility of the program doesnât diminish the quality of the education because as one student notes, âthe faculty set the standards of success and the students uphold them and even surpass the expectations of the faculty.â
Students say the âprogram has a âsmall schoolâ feel but [the] degree has a âbig schoolâ impact.â It is easy to see the appeal of a program that many students call a âprivate-school experienceâ without having to pay âprivate-school level tuition.â MBAs agree that the âprice, location and reputationâ make this a great program.
