At The College of Wooster, curiosity drives everything we do. Our students arrive with questions, interests, and ambitions. Through close faculty mentorship, hands-on learning, and a rigorous liberal arts education, they develop the confidence and skills to pursue those interests wherever they lead.
At the center of the Wooster experience is Independent Study (I.S.), our nationally recognized senior capstone. Every student completes a substantial project of original research or creative expression, working one-on-one with a faculty mentor to investigate a question, challenge, or idea that matters to them. More than a project, I.S. develops the research, communication, and problem-solving skills students carry into their careers and graduate studies. It is also one reason Wooster is consistently recognized among the nation's best colleges for undergraduate teaching and undergraduate research.
Learning extends well beyond the classroom. Wooster is a community of Independent Minds, Working Together in classrooms, laboratories, studios, performance spaces, athletic teams, and student organizations. Students can choose from more than 90 clubs and organizations, 23 varsity athletic teams, seven music ensembles, and countless opportunities for leadership, service, internships, research, and study abroad. Wooster students learn by doing.
The results are clear. Within nine months of graduation, 98% of Wooster graduates are employed or enrolled in graduate school, and 95% of those pursuing advanced study are accepted to their first-choice graduate program. They leave Wooster prepared not only for what's next, but for a lifetime of learning, leadership, and meaningful impact.
