From the School

At LIM College, we take an experience-based approach to education. It's the best way to learn how all aspects of the global business of fashion and lifestyle work together—while giving you the knowledge and skills you'll need to build a successful career.

No matter your major, you'll learn from faculty with extensive experience in their fields, including many current fashion and business professionals. Core courses will teach you the foundational skills needed in any field, including the ability to think critically, communicate effectively, and analyze data.

You'll also complete required internships, applying and refining your skills while building invaluable professional contacts. Guest speakers, industry competitions and special projects, and company visits provide even more opportunities to connect the dots between learning and doing.

Because your time is valuable and flexibility is key, we've structured our programs to ensure you're always making progress toward your degree. Our adaptable curriculum allows you to explore your interests and discover new talents through electives, minors, and study abroad opportunities. Our academic approach also makes changing your major or transferring to LIM, while staying on track for graduation, simple and straightforward. Further, many of our courses as well as entire degree programs—are also available fully online.

At LIM College, the true value in your education doesn't lie in a single class, program, or internship. It's the way all these experiences come together to position you to achieve your dream career.

What students say

If you’re passionate about the business of fashion but prefer a “small school†setting, then LIM in New York City just might be the college for you. The school combines a business curriculum with studies in subjects like “visual merchandising,†“fashion media,†and “fashion merchandising.†LIM also places a premium on “experiential education†and students must participate in at least “three internships.†In turn, this fosters many “networking connections that are beneficial for future career goals.†Students also benefit from “small classes†and an “intimate†learning environment. And they love the fact that their professors have “a great deal of experience in the industry†as well as “great insight and connections.†Importantly, the vast majority of the faculty is extremely “helpful†and it’s evident they “want each student to succeed.†They “push [undergrads] to work hard†and continually regale them with “great stories.†Finally, LIM undergrads brag that their “job placement [rate] after graduation is very high.†And that makes total sense given how well the school “prepares you for your future.â€

Location

At LIM College, New York City is your campus. With two academic buildings and a residence hall all within a short walking distance of each other right in midtown Manhattan, you can experience all the opportunities, advantages, and excitement New York City has to offer.

Campus Facilities & Equipment

LIM College's Adrian G. Marcuse Library provides access to specialized academic and industry databases ranging from market research to fashion and trend forecasting, as well as books, magazines, and other electronic resources. Librarians are available to help guide students through the entire research process.

Student computer labs (Mac and PC) and lounges are positioned throughout LIM's buildings, and the Fifth Avenue location is equipped with a fashion merchandising studio,, visual studio, photography studio, as well as a Color and Materials Lab. Student services offices are centrally located in the Maxwell Hall building, which also houses a cafe, multiple student lounges, and an academic resource center that offers one-on-one math, writing, and graphic design assistance.

Off-Campus Opportunities

You'll become part of the fashion business from day one. That's because as you work towards your degree, you gain invaluable hands-on experience and make important professional connections through required internships, including an intensive full semester co-op internship in your final semester. Companies LIM students interned for during the 2023-24 academic year include, but are not limited to: Christian Louboutin, Carolina Herrera, Nordstrom, NBC Universal, Saint Laurent, the TJX Companies, and Giorgio Armani. LIM College students also volunteer backstage at New York Fashion Week and many other fashion events in New York City throughout the year.

What students say:

By and large, students at LIM are “very career focused†and “have a great work ethic.†So it’s not too surprising to learn that “days are usually filled with either school classes or internships/jobs.†Many undergrads also note that since “LIM is a big commuter school...most people just go to class then leave.†And given that the campus only consists of “three buildings throughout the city,†there’s not a lot of space in which to simply “hang around.†Though some individuals do counter that “LIM holds many school wide events during the open hour on Mondays and Wednesdays for students to interact and engage.†Indeed, we’re told that “social life consists of doing things throughout the city.†LIM students can often be spotted around New York City attending “concerts, fashion shows, bars, celebrity events…[and even] live TV events.†They also eagerly explore nearby “museums, restaurants, shows, parks, shops, and more.†One happy student elaborates, “We like to go out to eat a lot and see movies. I personally love gallery hopping and going to live music parties.â€
