From The School

Saint Anselm is home to roughly 2,000 graduate and undergraduate students, representing over 25 states and multiple countries.

Saint Anselm offers over 80 student-led clubs, organizations, and committees, 23 NCAA varsity athletic programs, a variety of community engagement opportunities, and more. Annual traditions like the college's Relay for Life and Gingerbread House Competition are popular among the student body.

What students say:

People at Saint Anselm are "easy to get to know," with "a large student athlete population and campus ministry/service population," and everyone tries to "embrace the community as much as we can, and cherish all of the time that we have here." As one student says, "The people who go to Saint Anselm College genuinely love the school and want to be at 'the Hilltop' [the affectionate name for the school campus] as much as possible." While "ethnic and racial diversity is not entirely large" here, this group of "warm-hearted welcoming individuals" say that "no matter your background, you'll find your niche here." To better understand the vibe, know that students commonly say things like "That was [or wasn't] very Anselmian of you," as they expect their peers to be "kind, respectful, and compassionate."

From the School

Saint Anselm offers over 100 total academic programs. Majors, minors, and master's degree programs are offered in the arts and humanities, economics and business, nursing and health sciences, social sciences, STEM, and teacher education.

What students say

Saint Anselm College is a Benedictine Catholic liberal arts school, a "welcoming, safe place where students can receive an amazing education" within the surroundings of a quintessential New England setting. Adhering to the school's service roots, the monks "are a huge part of life on campus, and even teach some classes" and "any courses that fulfill your civic requirement have an aspect called Community Engaged Learning where you volunteer in the surrounding towns as a part of your grade." To help bridge its 2,000 students into the discussion-based, inquisitive learning of its core curriculum, all first-year students take the two-part Conversatio class, where students "explore the connection between ourselves, the world, and the divine through many pieces of historical literature" and "spend most of the time outside lecture talking to classmates and leading discussions on the literature we study."

A student-to-faculty ratio of 11:1 makes it easier to form personal relationships with the "very caring and knowledgeable" professors, who "are always willing to meet with students to help them." There's also an Academic Resource Center that offers further workshops, writing assistance, and peer tutoring. And while some classes may lean heavily on lectures, teachers are praised for bringing in guests who are professionals in their fields to help illustrate the concepts being taught, and the school has a popular study abroad program that seeks to give students first-hand research opportunities. Ultimately, students applaud the Saint Anselm experience, as "no matter what your major is, you will experience a little bit of everything."

Location

Saint Anselm College's beautiful Hilltop campus is tucked away just outside of downtown Manchester, NH. A warm community and Benedictine hospitality are among the first things that visitors notice about the campus; all are welcome at Saint Anselm.

Campus Facilities & Equipment

Academic facilities like Alumni Hall, the Goulet Science Center, the New Hampshire Institute of Politics, the Grappone Humanities Institute, and the new Jean School of Nursing and Health Sciences at Grappone Hall (coming soon!) offer state-of-the-art equipment to all Saint Anselm students.

Additional facilities like the Abbey Church, Davison Dining Hall, Jean Student Center, Stoutenburgh Gymnasium, and Sullivan Ice Arena provide opportunities for success and comfort in all aspects of campus life.

Off-Campus Opportunities

From downtown's restaurant and music scene to some of New Hampshire's best beaches, hiking, and skiing destinations, Saint Anselm students find plenty of ways to keep busy not far from campus. Additionally, local businesses and organizations partner with the college to offer students a variety of internship and community engagement opportunities.

What students say:

The average Saint Anselm enrollee is constantly on the move, "going from meeting to meeting, class to class, club to club." Still, "while everyone is busy, no one is overwhelmed," and students can slow down to enjoy the simple pleasures of "spending time with friends at the dining hall and taking long walks throughout campus." During the day, it tends to be all business: "you will often see people working on their laptops in common areas, the student center, library, even at the dining hall." However, after the books are closed, "people love to spend time outside, whether it's sledding, playing KanJam, cornhole, [or] hiking." Almost all students live on campus for their four years, and "the campus events clubs try to have events or food trucks as much as possible to make an average day just a little more special."
