Salve Regina University in Newport, Rhode Island, is a liberal arts institution that embraces service and produces conscientious, ambitious learners who work to "become more informed citizen[s]...responsible for making the world a better place." Set on seven connected 19th century estates overlooking the Atlantic, the school offers 48 undergraduate majors, including 11 combined bachelor's/master's programs, as well as 200 study abroad programs in 45 countries. Classes at Salve do an excellent job of incorporating the unique location, including "walking tours of Newport for various history classes" and "using the proximity to aquatic life and water" in environmental studies classes, the marine biology course, and other classes. There are "incredible research and internship opportunities" available to students, and the Academic Excellence Center is "an excellent resource" and offers tutoring, learning and study strategies, and peer academic coaching.
Students appreciate the small class sizes and the "caring and involved" professors and faculty. Professors are "visibly passionate about their disciplines and the material they teach" and "encourage class discussion and participation." As one student says, "We have...professors who are very encouraging and genuinely want all students to succeed." Finals are sometimes "creative projects that allow students to expand their knowledge in certain subjects that they feel passionate about," including "a short film, poem, short story, [or] video essay," and "it really allows students to be passionate about what they are learning and dive into aspects of larger topics that they love."
