Trinity offers more than 100 majors and minors, with advising programs in Pre–Law and Health Professions (including Pre–Medical). Through our interdisciplinary second major, you can combine your academic interests and passions to create your own double major. Students have created majors in social entrepreneurship, music business, and much more~

04. AcademicsScroll to Top  Scroll To Top Arrow

From the School

Trinity's blend of academic rigor and camaraderie drives us to sharpen our knowledge and skills through hands–on learning, undergraduate research, and a strong bond of mutual respect between faculty and students. As a University, we are committed to ensuring that all Trinity undergraduate degrees represent a liberal arts and sciences education.

Trinity's curriculum, Pathways, allows you to explore majors before you declare yours. You can take courses from all schools, regardless of your major.

Three optional curricular elements can further enrich a Trinity education:
  • Hands–on learning through undergraduate research, internships, and study abroad
  • Minors that provide both breadth and depth to an interdisciplinary education
  • A Second major, you can create your own double major combining academic interests and passions.

What students say

Trinity University's alumni employment rate is ranked number one in Texas. Students appreciate this San Antonio-based university's hands-on academic programming, which they describe as an "excellent pipeline into getting a good job [that's] almost guaranteed for some majors." This success is credited in part to "faculty members [that] are highly knowledgeable and experienced in their respective fields." In fact, 97% of Trinity professors hold a doctorate or the highest degree available in their field. A 9:1 teacher-to-student ratio, on average, also offers the chance for "a lot of interaction" between professors and undergrads and helps create "classes that are challenging and enjoyable." Students also note that Trinity's career focus doesn't come at the cost of expansive education opportunities. The school offers almost 60* majors that range from the arts and humanities to the social sciences, along with special interests like pre-law that are supported by real-world experiences, special programming like "regular entrepreneurship competitions," and motivational "high profile speakers such as Venus Williams." Trinity's interdisciplinary approach is another benefit that "encourages students to take a wide range of courses and develop many skills." Students also say the university "makes it very easy to change majors, pick up a second one, or [add a] minor." In addition to robust higher ed courses, "great academic facilities" are part of the appeal of Trinity, with many of its buildings included on the National Registry of Historic Places. Coates Library is a prime example, offering more than 1 million research sources, and adding to the campus' reputation as a living library.

Location

Trinity University spans 125 acres atop a hill overlooking downtown San Antonio. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2018, it's the only Texas campus designated as a modernist historic district and one of just three nationwide. For more than 75 of its 155 years, Trinity has thrived in San Antonio, proudly contributing to a fast–growing, multicultural urban community that reflects the future of the United States.

Campus Facilities & Equipment

No matter your major, Trinity offers students the resources ordinarily available to schools ten times its size: scholarships, research opportunities, travel opportunities, state–of–the–art facilities and equipment, and more.

In Dicke Hall, Trinity University's home for the humanities, students seeking a foundation in the liberal arts find collaborative working spaces and state–of–the–art classrooms in a high–tech, high–touch environment.

In the Center for the Sciences & Innovation (CSI) , Trinity's science and engineering programs offer students cutting–edge instrumentation usually found only at the graduate level. This five–story science and engineering complex includes a rooftop observatory, a living ?green? roof and rooftop greenhouse, and an open–air innovation and design studio where students of all majors can operate heavy–duty laser cutters, 3D printers, lathes, and more.

Student Success Center
The Student Success Center offers a holistic approach to help students identify roadblocks to academic and personal success while ensuring all students have access to counseling, health, wellness, accessibility, and academic support services.

Center for Experiential Learning and Career Success (CELCS)
CELCS connects students to hands–on learning opportunities and provides personalized career coaching and advising. The Center is a one–stop–shop to help students prepare for life after Trinity, from graduate school to the job market.

Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship
Students form entrepreneurial project teams to transform creative ideas into practical realities and to interact with alumni entrepreneurs and creators in the San Antonio community.

The Ruth Taylor Fine Arts Center is composed of three buildings: the Smith music building, which houses classrooms, practice studios, and the Ruth Taylor Recital Hall; the Dicke art building, which features spacious art studios flooded with natural light, digital photo labs, and an art gallery; and the Ruth Taylor Theater building, which features the 500–seat Stieren Theater, one of the most advanced theatrical facilities at an undergraduate college. Trinity is part of an elite network of schools that are All–Steinway campuses.

At the Richardson Communication Center, students have access to an interactive multimedia lab, two television stations with control rooms, and the studios for KRTU–FM—which is not only the campus radio station, but also San Antonio's largest outlet for jazz music.

The William H. Bell Center is a 193,715 square foot complex home to two performance gymnasiums, Hixon Natatorium, and various other facilities for physical fitness. The Bell Center serves as the core of Trinity University's athletic complex. It is available to all Trinity students, faculty, and staff with a Trinity ID.

Off-Campus Opportunities

San Antonio, one of America's fastest–growing cities, boasts a booming economy fueled by high demand in the medical, biomedical, biotechnology, energy, manufacturing, tourism, technology, and military sectors. Our close proximity to Mexico further enhances our economy and global engagement.

Trinity's campus is a stone's throw from the heart of downtown, which allows the Trinity community to experience everything from First Friday Artwalks to Fiesta celebrations to farmer's markets at the Pearl.

If you love the outdoors, there are countless opportunities to take advantage of South Texas' great weather by exploring the Hill Country, the Guadalupe River, and various hiking and climbing activities.

What students say:

While academics are a large focal point of the Trinity University experience, the campus promotes a "work hard/play hard dynamic." In addition to a large focus on studies, there are also ample opportunities for recreation through numerous student-led organizations. Greek life, intramural sports, an onsite fitness center, theater and film clubs, and mock trials are some of the most popular activities and "rec sports are top notch." There are also more niche interests such as a "knitting club ... and Taylor Swift club [that help students] find people with similar interests." Many student organizations are connected with the larger San Antonio community and offer ways to "engage with volunteering"; a popular pick among students is the Cats Alliance that "feeds, spays/neuters, [and] vaccinates" any stray cats on campus, and "has a great group of people involved in taking care of them." Students attest to how well these activities add to Trinity's "well-rounded experience, both academically and socially," by allowing them to "explore interests and develop new skills."

What students say

Trinity University’s Career Services looks to provide students with every tool they need to personalize their individual career paths, including coaching, industry-specific panels, and recruiting events. The office sees “facilitating connections” as one of its main roles, and Trinity’s small size makes it so “everyone really knows everyone, even alumni, which is really great because it makes networking so much easier.” Through an array of online resources, students can see what paths can be followed with various majors and even see the jobs that Trinity alums have held at different companies. Career fairs are held several times throughout the year, and students can avail themselves of the Tiger Advantage Professionalism Program to ensure their skill sets are career-ready and their resumes are well-rounded. According to PayScale.com, 50 percent of Trinity graduates consider their careers to provide a high level of meaning, and the median starting salary is roughly $63,100.

What students say:

Trinity University has a varied demographic, which creates a "rich tapestry of experiences." More importantly to students, this "abundant diversity of personalities, races, identities... interests and passions," which includes "a strong LGBTQ+ community," comes together in a "very family-like atmosphere." The university is credited with fostering how "students interact, really bringing out a certain unity." Within the student body there are also "student leaders who have great pride for their cultures," which makes it "extremely enjoyable to join culture clubs around campus to celebrate different ethnic groups." The breadth of diversity on campus also is evident "in relation to character and ideas. The campus is filled with unique individuals who each bring something different to the table." Students also share a common goal of "being interested in learning and [being] hardworking" and many "take on multiple disciplines of education and are involved in an array of campus organizations." There's a reason students are known as Trinity Tigers: they are "helpful, collaborative, and rarely competitive," say enrollees, and are "cultivating life-long relationships."
